2nd Annual Filipino-American Jazz Festival

JazzPhil-USA proudly announces that the highly anticipated 2nd Annual Filipino-American Jazz Festival has grown into a two-day weekend event!

On December 9-10, 2006, the finest Filipino jazz artists ever assembled on one stage will appear at Hollywood's world-famous Catalina Bar & Grill jazz club, performing home to legendary musicians like Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis and McCoy Tyner. Last year's event, held on a weeknight, was standing-room only, and the club had to turn away numerous patrons. JazzPhil-USA, the organizers of the jazz festival, advises music lovers to purchase tickets early.

Show times are: 8 & 10 PM on December 9, and 4 & 7 PM on December 10. Tickets purchased in advance are $30 for Dec 9 at 8PM, and $25 for all other shows. Tickets at the door on the day of the event will cost $5 more. Patrons may purchase tickets through our secured website by clicking here or calling 323 512 5543 ext 2.

The following artists are scheduled to perform: CRESCENDO, the multi-award-winning jazz vocal quintet, recently seen on "L.A. Kababayan"; Abe Lagrimas, Jr., Hawaii-based ukelele master and last year's surprise hit; Charmaine Clamor, the first Filipina jazz vocalist to find success on American jazz radio; Victor Noriega, the Seattle-based pianist, who received the Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award for Emerging Artist of 2005; Julius Tolentino, New York-based saxophone player whose debut album (2005) received heavy airplay all across America and at a young age played with musical giants such as Natalie Cole, Marlena Shaw, Vanessa Rubin, Kevin Mahogany, among others; and Mon David, the celebrated Philippine-based vocalist, winner of the 2006 London International Vocal Jazz Competition and 2006 Awit Award Winner for Best Jazz Recording. The "godfather of Filipino jazz," pianist, composer and arranger, Emil Mijares, will be honored at the Festival with JazzPhil-USA's first ever Lifetime Achievement Award. More Filipino luminaries will be confirmed soon!

Maintaining its tradition of supporting emerging artists, JazzPhil-USA is now accepting submissions for its annual talent search. The winners (one instrumentalist, one vocalist) will be featured at the Festival. Applicants may send bio, photo and audio sample to contact@jazzphil-usa.com or at 7510 Sunset Blvd. #250, Hollywood, CA 90046-3408.
